This cluster of films never established a dominant model for comic dialogue on the screen. Throughout the years 1930–3 the pressures for censorship and a stricter enforcement of the Production Code grew.

The landscape of screen romance draws on these established conventions, but each film can construct its magical comic setting in a distinctive manner.
