Project 5: Mylar Bag Clamp As I get more involved with personal disaster preparation and I store more dry bulk foods, I keep looking for ways to make what I am doing simpler and easier while still being cost effective.

The bottom was covered in chicken wire to give better access to the grass. In a tractor this size 5 or 6 chickens manage well, especially if you give them supplemental feed on top of the bugs and grass they find for themselves. To make construction simple we built our chicken tractor like an A-frame. We cut most of the 1x4s into 4 foot sections with a 45-degree angle into one end. Next, using glue, brads, and metal support plates used to make trusses, we built 4 sets of supports that were two of the 4-foot sections joined together to make a 90-degree angle.

I prefer to pack my food in 1-gallon bags because it is easier to use 1 gallon of food at a time than it is to use 5. Also, I can put several 1-gallon bags containing a variety of foods in a single 5-gallon bucket. I don’t get as much in a bucket, but in the event I have to leave quickly and only have room for one or two buckets I don’t risk as much. Typically I pack rice, wheat, sugar, and salt in the same bucket. I have many more options if I am eating out of a bucket like this than if I only had a bucket of wheat or salt.
