Ed has fished widely (one of the first times I heard of him was when he was conducting seminars for Bud Lilly in Montana in the early 1970s), and he mentions some of those faraway experiences here when it's helpful to do so, but this book is in the tradition of the earlier works from the Letort regulars. I read this manuscript with a growing excitement as I recognized how well Terrestrial Fishing fits into that tradition.

The trout just fed and fed and fed. It was an area that was impossible to approach from the stream because the water was over chest waders. The only way to get to these trout was from the bank. A few of us cleared one or two casting lanes in the brush in order to enable us to get to those trout. One Sunday morning I went down, walked into the woods, sat in one of the cleared areas, and just watched. There were nineteen trout feeding in an area not more than forty feet long and thirty feet wide.
