It is essential to check the mast’s surface thoroughly, the points of attachment of the fittings and damage-sensitive places, such as the highest hoisting point of the mainsail headboard, for (small) tears or damage.

So, by measuring the stretch, rig tension can be adjusted fairly accurately.

However, the boom end will be so far outboard that it will be difficult to attach it. The solution is a fixed leader underneath the boom. Use a piece of Dyneema with one end spliced onto the mainsheet pivot or strop and an eyesplice at the other end. A piece of shock cord will keep the leader taut underneath the boom. When needed, the preventer can safely be attached to the leader from the deck.
