Whereas the very stern section of the hull sits flat on the seabed, at the aftmost main 12-inch gun turret, the main deck lifts off the seabed quite dramatically – the metal of the hull curling up and over the 12-inch gun turrets. From being flat on the seabed, the hull here assumes its more angular, port side up aspect.
On 16 August 1917, Karlsruhe participated in a minesweeping operation in the North Sea.
