Release the brake and undo the quick-release skewer or nuts securing the wheel in the dropouts (see here). If you have horizontal dropouts (where the axle can be in various positions along the slot), note the position so you can replace the wheel correctly. Stand behind the bike and, to keep the chain out of the way, grasp the rear derailleur (with the chain around it) with one hand and pull it towards you, then pull the wheel out with the other hand. You might need to waggle it a bit. To replace the wheel, stand at the rear of the bike and pull the rear derailleur towards you with one hand, while guiding the wheel between the forks with the other, so that the smallest sprocket is resting on the bottom part of the chain, then position the wheel in the dropouts.

Some have a stand-light that stores some energy and comes on when you stop. Dynamos are mounted permanently on a bike and so are vulnerable to theft. In the UK, the law states that you must display lights when cycling ‘on a public road between sunset and sunrise’.
