Bei der zweiten, evtl. dritten Analyse werden je nach der Schwierigkeit 3-5 Substanzen derart vermischt, daß auch mehrere Substanzen in ein und derselben Untergruppe vorkommen können, daß also z. B. die Trennung mehrerer indifferenter Bestandteile, mehrerer Basen oder Säuren oder leichtflüchtiger Bestandteile, durchzuführen ist. Solche Analysen sind für die Praxis von besonderer Wichtigkeit.
I) von Kohlenwasserstoffen und Estern, also Substanzen mit typisch organischem Charakter, dadurch zerlegen, daß man die Ester verseift; dann können die Säuren in Form von Natriumsalzen leicht abgetrennt werden. Ein Gemisch von Säuren, das durch Lösungsmittel oder Destillation schlecht zu trennen ist, läßt sich in vielen Fällen nach der Esterifizierung zerlegen; die Ester lassen sich durch Destillation trennen1 . Diese Methode wurde z. B. von E. FISCHER für die Trennung der Gemische von Aminosäuren, die bei der Eiweißspaltung erhalten werden, angewandt.
Die weitere Trennung in die Untergruppen wird dann der Reihe nach mit Hilfe von Sodalösung, Natronlauge und Salzsäure erreicht (vgl. Tabellen z-8, S. 147-156). Im einfachsten Falle, in Gruppe S. F. I, vollzieht sich diese Trennung so, daß aus der ätherischen Lösung durch Ausschütteln mit Sodalösung die Säuren, dann mit Natronlauge die Phenole, schließlich mit Salzsäure die Basen abgetrennt werden, wobei in der ätherischen Lösung die Neutralstoffe zurückbleiben. Ist ein Gemisch organischer Stoffe nach diesem Trennungsgang zerlegt, so können in jeder Untergruppe sich wieder Gemische vorfinden; es sind dann weitere Trennungen vorzunehmen.
