H e writes: The importance of these measurements lies in the fact that, although the osmotic pressure of the proteids [proteins] of the plasma is so insignificant, it is an order of magnitude comparable to that of the capillary pressures [which he was technically incapable of measuring]; and whereas capillary pressure determines transduction, the osmotic pressure of the proteids of the serum determines absorption.
